Construction of a thermal power plant and wastewater treatment facility at the Emeelt Eco Industrial Park in Ulaanbaatar has begun, with a groundbreaking ceremony held.

The power plant and wastewater treatment facility will form part of the park’s engineering infrastructure, providing its industries with a reliable supply of electricity and heat and proper wastewater management. The wastewater treatment facility will enable industrial

wastewater to be treated in accordance with the required technical standards and help reduce adverse environmental impacts.

The development of the Emeelt Eco Industrial Park is expected to create more than 5,600 new jobs, generate MNT 1.7 trillion in revenue and contribute MNT 86.3 billion in annual tax revenue. The investment is estimated to be recouped within six to seven years.

The park will have the capacity to process 7.5 million hides and skins, 3,000 tonnes of wool, 5,800 tonnes of cashmere, 25,000 tonnes of meat and 8,000 tonnes of by-products annually. The project aims to develop an environmentally friendly livestock-based industrial cluster equipped with advanced technologies that meet international standards.

The Emeelt Eco Industrial Park is being developed as part of efforts to accelerate industrialization, add value to livestock-origin raw materials and develop export-oriented production. Its development will enable industrial activities to be relocated to an appropriate designated area, while creating opportunities to rehabilitate and redevelop contaminated land in existing industrial zones.

Relocating leather, wool and cashmere processing plants currently operating around the Khargia area to Emeelt will help create a healthier and safer living environment for residents of Khan-Uul District.

Purevdagva Byaruuzana, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar and Governor of the Capital City, emphasized that the city administration will focus on accelerating the development of the park, providing the necessary engineering infrastructure in phases, and creating a favorable environment for investment and industrial production.

He also stressed the importance of cooperation among the government, private sector, investors and producers in completing the construction within the planned timeframe while meeting approved designs, standards, occupational safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
