Chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economics Zayabal Batjargal, along with Members of Parliament Munkhsoyol Baatarjav, Luvsanjamts Ganzorig, Zoljargal Jargalsaikhan, Jargalan Batbayar, and Batnairamdal Otgonshar, received Tahsin Saadi Sedik, Deputy Division Chief at the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Asia and Pacific Department and Mission Chief for Mongolia, and Marshall Mills, IMF Senior Resident Representative for Mongolia, on September 28, 2026.

Members of the standing committee and representatives of parliamentary parties and coalitions attended the meeting. They expressed their positions and exchanged views on current macroeconomic conditions, future response measures, and draft budget legislation.

The committee chair and members previously met with IMF representatives six months ago to discuss the economic situation and its challenges. While these challenges persist, the Standing Committee on Economics highlighted its recent approval of legal frameworks regarding state property transparency and governance. Furthermore, they announced plans to discuss draft laws on establishing a Specialized Housing Bank, the Central Bank, and Securities.

The IMF representatives noted that Mongolia has navigated global economic conditions well, building unprecedented foreign exchange reserves and maintaining stable key economic indicators. However, they warned that if inflationary pressures rise, the Bank of Mongolia may need to tighten monetary policy and increase the policy rate. In this context, the IMF emphasized the importance of strengthening the legal environment to ensure the Central Bank's independence in making autonomous monetary policy decisions, stressing the need to amend the Law on the Central Bank (Bank of Mongolia).

Economists from the IMF's Asia and Pacific Department and the Resident Representative Office, along with staff from the Parliament Secretariat, also attended the meeting, the Open Parliament Department reported.
