Jigjidsuren Chinburen: Delivering World-Class Cancer Care Services in Mongolia www.oncodaily.com

Jigjidsuren Chinburen, Minister of Health of Mongolia, shared a post on Facebook:

“A New Chapter in Collaborative Efforts to Deliver World-Class Cancer Care Services in Mongolia

Let me share some wonderful news with all of you.

Today, our team at the National Center for Cancer Research (NCCR) met with the leadership of the National Cancer Center of the Republic of Korea (NCC). The meeting included Dr. Han Kwang-Young, the director, professor, and doctor of the NCC, to discuss the National Cancer Research Center-II project, which Mongolia plans to establish. We explored collaboration frameworks based on the NCC’s development model to jointly advance this project and elevate our long-term strategic partnership to a new level.

Our vision is to develop the National Cancer Research Center-II not just as a modern medical facility but as a comprehensive national hub that integrates:

- Advanced treatment
- Research and innovation
- Education and training
- National cancer registry
- Early detection and prevention
- Policy development
- International collaboration

South Korea stands today as a global leader in cancer care. Despite high rates of stomach cancer, the country has achieved one of the lowest mortality rates worldwide thanks to its national early detection programs and high-quality treatment systems. Additionally, South Korea ranks among the top countries globally for five-year survival rates in colorectal and breast cancer, a testament to the effectiveness of its healthcare model.

Mongolia aspires to learn from this success and ensure its citizens receive world-class cancer care and services at home.

The foundation of our collaboration was laid in 2012, when we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Over the years, dozens of Mongolian doctors and specialists have trained in South Korea, and cutting-edge technologies and treatment methods have been introduced in Mongolia – strengthening the partnership between our two nations in cancer care.

Fourteen years later, we are taking this collaboration to the next level. Today, we officially agreed to sign an updated MoU on July 9, 2026, in Mongolia. This milestone will be realized during the state visit of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol to Mongolia, marking a new era in strategic health sector collaboration between our two countries.

This partnership is not just about expanding collaboration between our institutions – it is a historic step toward:

• Elevating Mongolia’s cancer care and treatment systems to international standards.
• Laying the groundwork for the National Cancer Research Center-II project together.

Our shared goal is clear: To ensure that every Mongolian can access world-class cancer diagnosis, early detection, and cutting-edge treatment within their own country. Together, we are committed to making this vision a reality.
