Mongolia has harvested the majority of the wheat and vegetables planted this year, according to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
As of October 5, farmers had harvested 90% of the country’s potatoes and 70% of its wheat.
Iderbat Tsagaankhuu, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, said the government has begun purchasing 100,000 tonnes of wheat from agricultural businesses as part of measures related to this year’s revised state budget. He emphasized that subsequent wheat purchases will be conducted through the Agricultural Commodity Exchange in a transparent and open manner, following a principle of preventing any single company from supplying an excessive amount.
The ministry has also prepared to select storage facilities for the 13,000–14,000 tonnes of vegetables already harvested. Applications will be accepted not only from the country’s main agricultural regions, Tuv, Selenge and Darkhan-Uul aimags, but also from other aimags. The amount of potatoes to be purchased from each location will be determined and organized on site.
This autumn, Mongolia plans to harvest a total of 497,100 tonnes of wheat and 218,400 tonnes of vegetables.
