Mongolia Joins the Peace Council Initiated by President Donald Trump www.montsame.mn
Mongolia has officially joined the Peace Council initiated by President of the United States Donald Trump, becoming a founding member of the Council.
Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav signed the Charter of the Peace Council on January 22, 2026, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland.
As a responsible, peace-supporting nation on the international stage, Mongolia’s endorsement of a new, flexible, and results-oriented peace mechanism represents a significant step toward strengthening the country’s international standing and amplifying its voice globally. It also marks an important advancement in safeguarding and reinforcing Mongolia’s security and independence through political and diplomatic means within the framework of international law.
Mongolia has extensive experience in actively participating in international peacekeeping and peace-support operations. The Charter of the Peace Council does not establish a militarized alliance; rather, it is based on voluntary cooperation and respect for the sovereignty of states. These principles are fully aligned with Mongolia’s peace-loving, independent, and multi-pillared foreign policy.
The provision in the Charter referring to a USD 1 billion threshold relates to a special clause concerning the extension of membership for an additional three-year period. This requirement does not automatically apply to Mongolia, nor does it constitute an obligation or impose practical pressure. Mongolia is not required to assume any financial commitments and, as a regular member, may participate for a three-year term on a voluntary basis, in forms consistent with its capacities and interests.
To date, leaders and senior officials from 17 countries have signed the Charter and joined the Peace Council, including President of Argentina Javier Milei, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye Hakan Fidan.
