EBRD and EU Collaborate to Enhance SME Support in Mongolia
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU) have launched a significant initiative to bolster lending to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Mongolia. This initiative introduces a portfolio risk-sharing framework that aims to facilitate increased financial support to local businesses.
Under this framework, the EBRD will provide an unfunded guarantee of up to €25 million (US$ 29 million) on loans dispensed by XacBank, one of Mongolia’s leading financial institutions. This guarantee will cover up to 50% of the credit risk associated with new MSME loans, marking XacBank as the first Mongolian bank to implement this partnership.
