The Standing Committee on State Structure of the State Great Khural discussed a draft resolution on honouring and preserving Chinggis Khaan's legacy of statehood, marking the 820th anniversary of the establishment of the Great Mongol Empire, at its November 4 meeting.
The draft resolution proposes establishing a legal framework for conducting scientifically grounded research into historical matters related to Chinggis Khaan and passing the findings on to future generations. It also calls for bringing Chinggis Khaan's writings and portrait reproductions held abroad back to Mongolia, allocating a certain percentage of excise tax revenues from products named after the Great Khaan to the Chinggis Khaan Foundation, and using the foundation's funds to promote and raise awareness of Mongolia's history.
During the meeting, a majority of committee members also supported a proposal to prohibit the use of Chinggis Khaan's portrait on alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.
