Minister of Education Enkh-Amgalan Luvsantseren met with British Ambassador to Mongolia Edwin Samuel on October 1 to discuss ways to expand cooperation in education.
The talks focused on improving the quality and accessibility of English language education and supporting teacher development. A project implemented in cooperation with UNICEF, with support from the UK Government, helped strengthen the skills of English teachers in rural areas. A total of 739 teachers from 219 public schools in eight aimags took part, accounting for more than 20% of English language teachers nationwide.
The sides also discussed cooperation with Cambridge Partnership for Education to strengthen teacher training, build the capacity of the Mongolian National University of Education, update teacher education curricula, and support the professional development of teachers and researchers.
On higher education, Minister Enkh-Amgalan expressed appreciation for the Chevening Scholarship programme, which has supported Mongolian students pursuing master’s degrees in the UK. He also highlighted the need to turn a memorandum of understanding between the National University of Mongolia and NCUK into concrete study opportunities and to help other Mongolian universities establish partnerships with UK institutions.
The Mongolian side expressed interest in developing joint degree programmes, including 2+2 and 1+3 arrangements, under which students complete the first part of their studies in Mongolia and the remainder in the UK, expanding access to international education, according to the Ministry of Education.
